VP of Engineering, Data & AI Platform (Remote)
Minespider
**About Minespider**
Minespider builds supply chain software for organizations that can’t afford guesswork - industrial companies, governments, and international partners. We help customers track what’s in their products, where it came from, and what happened to it along the way. We work with enterprise teams (including partners like ABB and Tata Elxsi) and we’re expanding our footprint in Asia.
**The role**
We’re hiring a
**hands-on VP of Engineering**
to lead the next phase of our platform: an AI-ready data layer for industrial product information (including digital product passports), plus the “smart features” on top of it.
This isn’t a pure people-management job. You’ll lead the team, but you’ll also ship. Expect to spend real time in architecture, code reviews, prototypes, and technical decisions.
We’re not looking for AI research. We’re looking for someone who can take modern AI tooling and make it useful in production: reliable, measurable, secure, and actually adopted by customers.
**What you’ll build**
- A
**data layer for industrial product passports**
: traceability events, compliance docs, supplier data, certificates, and the messy stuff enterprises already have
- A
**knowledge layer**
customers can search and use (clean entity models, relationships, provenance, audit trails)
- **AI features**
that reduce manual work: semantic search, document understanding, extraction, anomaly detection, “ask the data” workflows
- Enterprise-grade
**APIs and integrations**
(ERP/PLM/MES, partner systems), built to run in the real world
- A platform that’s
**secure, observable, and stable**
(multi-tenant, permissioned, audited)
**What you’ll do (day to day)Lead and ship**
- Own delivery: roadmap, releases, quality, and reliability
- Keep the team moving without drowning everyone in process
- Jump in when it matters: prototypes, spikes, tricky bugs, performance issues, and platform refactors
- Set engineering standards that make life easier six months from now
**Own architecture (and keep it practical)**
- Define how services, APIs, and data models fit together
- Make clear calls on what we build vs. what we buy
- Keep security, tenancy, and auditability tight—without overbuilding
**Bring AI into the product**
- Set up LLM orchestration that’s testable and debuggable (tooling, prompts, guardrails, fallbacks)
- Put in measurement: quality metrics, offline evals, and “did this actually help the user?” tracking
- Work through the enterprise constraints: privacy, access control, data residency, audit logs
- Make it resilient: model changes, vendor outages, cost spikes—handled gracefully
**Build the team**
- Hire strong generalists who can build across backend/data/infra
- Coach engineers and hold a high bar on code quality and ownership
- Build a remote culture that’s direct, friendly, and low-ego
**Support global delivery**
- Work with customers and partners across regions (including Asia)
- Make integrations and deployments smoother for enterprise environments
**What we’re looking forMust-haves**
- 8+ years building software, with several years leading teams (Director/VP/Head of Eng, or similar scope)
- You’ve shipped AI-enabled or automation-heavy features into production and can talk through tradeoffs
- Strong backend/systems experience (Node.js is a plus); comfort working across the stack (React.js a plus)
- Solid data instincts: modeling, pipelines, search/retrieval, and knowing when a graph beats a table
- DevOps fundamentals: Docker, CI/CD, observability, incident response
- Clear written/spoken English and comfort leading in a remote setup
**What will make you stand out**
- **Cybersecurity Depth:**
Experience with
**Data Loss Prevention (DLP)**
, encryption at rest/transit, and managing
**Penetration Testing**
cycles.
- **Enterprise Integration:**
You’ve connected platforms to enterprise systems (ERP/PLM/MES) and handled complex SSO/IAM setups. Bonus if it was in an industrial domain (manufacturing, automation, energy, mining/metals, chemicals, logistics)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and multi-tenant SaaS patterns
- Experience with compliance-style requirements: permissions, traceability, audit logs, vendor security reviews
- Hands-on experience with common AI tooling (vector databases, LLM APIs, orchestration frameworks)
**What we offer**
- Fully remote work with a diverse international team
- Real ownership: platform direction, team growth, and product impact
- Enterprise customers, serious problems, and a platform already in the market
- Competitive salary and benefits
- Budget and time for learning
