Senior WordPress Developer

**US Time Zone Overlap Required | Independent Contractor**

We’re looking for a
**Senior WordPress Developer**
who can work independently, take ownership of projects, and operate with meaningful overlap with US working hours.

This is an
**independent contractor-style role**
. We’re not looking for someone who needs a lot of hand-holding or a rigid list of tasks. You should be comfortable taking a project from requirements through development, testing, launch, and ongoing improvement.

What You’ll Do

- Build, customize, and maintain WordPress websites and web applications
- Develop custom WordPress themes, plugins, and functionality
- Work with existing themes, plugins, and third-party integrations
- Translate designs and requirements into clean, responsive websites
- Troubleshoot and improve existing WordPress sites
- Optimize websites for performance, reliability, security, and SEO
- Work with APIs and external systems to build integrations
- Manage WordPress environments, updates, deployments, and backups
- Diagnose technical issues across WordPress, hosting, databases, DNS, and integrations
- Collaborate with designers, marketers, and other developers when needed
- Make pragmatic technical decisions and recommend better approaches when you see them
- Take ownership of projects rather than simply waiting for detailed instructions

What We’re Looking For

- **5+ years of professional WordPress development experience**
- Strong PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS skills
- Deep experience with WordPress architecture, themes, plugins, hooks, and custom development
- Experience working with MySQL and WordPress databases
- Strong understanding of responsive web development
- Experience integrating APIs and third-party services
- Comfortable working with Git and modern development workflows
- Experience with website performance optimization
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Good communication and ability to explain technical issues clearly
- Ability to work with
**US time-zone overlap**
on a consistent basis

Nice to Have

- Experience with WooCommerce
- Experience building custom WordPress plugins
- Experience with Elementor, ACF, or other major WordPress development tools
- Experience with REST APIs and webhooks
- Experience with AWS or other cloud hosting environments
- Familiarity with CI/CD and automated deployments
- Experience with technical SEO
- Experience maintaining larger or high-traffic WordPress sites

The Type of Person We Want

We care more about
**what you can actually build and troubleshoot**
than how many technologies you can list on a CV.

You should be someone who can look at an existing WordPress site, understand how it works, identify what's wrong, and figure out the best way to fix or improve it.

You should also be comfortable saying,
*“There’s a better way to do this,”*
and explaining why.

**This is a good fit if you:**

- Like owning problems rather than just completing tickets
- Can work independently without constant supervision
- Are comfortable working in an existing codebase
- Think about maintainability rather than just getting something working
- Can move quickly without sacrificing technical quality
- Are comfortable working directly with a US-based team during overlapping hours
