We are looking for an experienced Group Head of Accounting to lead the Accounting function for a large portfolio of international companies.
This is a senior leadership role combining strong technical accounting expertise with team management, process ownership and quality control. You will be responsible for building a scalable accounting operation, setting standards and deadlines, and ensuring that every accounting file and set of financial statements reaches management complete, accurate, properly supported and on time.
**Location: Tirane, Albania**
**Working hours: 08:00 - 17:00 - On site**
**What you’ll do:**
- Lead and develop the Accounting team, including Senior Accountants and Bookkeepers
- Take full ownership of the accounting function across a large multi-entity portfolio
- Own month-end and year-end closing processes
- Set accounting standards, review procedures, closing calendars and deadlines
- Provide final accounting sign-off on financial statements before management review
- Ensure reconciliations, working papers and supporting documentation are complete and properly maintained
- Review and resolve complex accounting issues and provide technical guidance to the team
- Build strong controls, checklists and review processes that ensure consistent quality
- Ensure recurring issues are identified, corrected and prevented from repeating
- Manage priorities and workload across the team and ensure deadlines are met
- Work closely with external auditors, accountants and tax advisers across multiple jurisdictions
- Provide clear visibility to management on status, risks, delays and issues requiring escalation
**What we’re looking for:**
- 8–10+ years of accounting or audit experience
- At least 4–5 years of proven experience leading an accounting team
- Strong experience managing accounting across multiple entities, ideally within an international group or multi-company environment
- Proven experience owning month-end and year-end closing processes end-to-end
- Strong experience reviewing financial statements, not only preparing them
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to challenge and review the work of senior team members
- Experience building and implementing accounting processes, controls, closing calendars and review checklists
- Strong ability to manage deadlines, prioritise and follow up until completion
- Experience working with international entities and multiple jurisdictions
- Strong knowledge of IFRS - Advantage
- Fluent English
- Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Big 4 or audit background is a strong advantage
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems is a plus
