Bio-Materials Chemist & Formulation Specialist (Natural Binders & Bio-Composites)
POSIDONIA
/job-details/10779
**Company:**
POSIDONIA
**Location:**
Durrës, Albania (On-site, Hybrid, or R&D Consultancy)
**Role Type:**
Project-based R&D Lead / Co-Developer / Technical Consultant
***Role Summary***
POSIDONIA is developing non-toxic, circular thermal and acoustic insulation panels from beach-cast Posidonia oceanica marine fibers.
We are seeking a
***Chemist or Bio-Materials Formulation Specialist***
to solve our core technical challenge: engineering an organic, non-toxic binding paste / eco-adhesive system that binds dry Posidonia oceanica fibers into cohesive, dimensionally stable insulation panels upon drying and curing.
Core Technical Challenge & Responsibilities
Natural Binder Formulation & Testing
- Formulate, mix, and test eco-friendly, bio-based pastes and organic binder matrices (e.g., plant starches, alginates, lignin derivatives, chitosan, natural silicates, clay, or lime systems).
- Optimize binder viscosity, wet adhesion, and drying kinetics so the paste coats fiber networks evenly without clogging fiber air pockets.
Panel Integrity & Mechanical Performance
- Achieve target compression strength, flexural rigidity, and dimensional stability in cured panels without excessive shrinkage or warping.
- Ensure the finished matrix preserves the natural vapor permeability (breathability), thermal performance, and fire-retardant properties of Posidonia oceanica.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Guarantee a 100% non-toxic, VOC-free formulation free from synthetic resins, formaldehydes, or petroleum-derived polyurethane adhesives.
- Test and integrate natural anti-fungal and moisture-regulating additives to prevent mold or bio-degradation under humid conditions.
Process & Curing Protocol Optimization
- Define low-energy curing temperature, pressing pressure, and moisture-evaporation timelines for bench-scale prototyping and future pilot production lines.
***Ideal Candidate Profile***
Background: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Bio-Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Materials Science, or Green Chemistry.
Key Expertise:
- Direct experience in bio-adhesives, green binders, natural polymer matrices, or bio-composite formulations (e.g., hemp, wood fiber, seagrass, or agricultural residue composites).
- Knowledge of fiber-matrix interfacial bonding, natural fiber surface chemistry, and curing mechanisms of organic pastes.
- Experience with rheology, mechanical testing (tensile/compression), and thermal conductivity analysis.
*Working Model: Open to individual technical consultants, academic researchers, or formulation engineers seeking a hands-on bio-material R&D partnership.*
*How to Get in Touch*
If you are a chemist or materials expert passionate about green chemistry, natural fiber bonding, and sustainable building products, send your CV, technical portfolio, or relevant publication links to info@posidonia.space or contact us on LinkedIn.
